Hiking with “over sized winter shoes“ has become increasingly popular in South Tyrol in the last few years. No wonder: you can go off-piste to enjoy nature and are not tied to cleared tracks or need the necessary ski technique to reach a peak as you do for ski mountaineering. In the mean time there are even a few guide books with suggested routes (e.g. by Stimpfl/Oberrauch, Schneeschuhwandern in Südtirol). The Stubai Alps has numerous easy to medium grade tours. Of course, our winter hiking trails in the valley and along the lower slopes are also suitable for snowshoers, moreover you can also used the marked hiking trails.
